The United States has some of the best colleges and universities in the world. While great colleges exist all around the U.S., there are few places that are better for higher education than the Chicagoland area. Through the American student visa programs, foreign students are able to get access to these colleges and universities.
At Kriezelman Burton & Associates, LLC, our skilled Chicago student visa attorneys have extensive experience handling all types of educational visa applications. If you or a loved one is seeking a visa to attend school in Northern Illinois, please contact our team today for immediate assistance with your case.
F-1 visas are available to international students who are attending a qualified academic program at a United States-based college or university. Students who are seeking this type of visa are required to maintain a full-time course load at the educational institution at which they are attending classes. F-1 visa holders are permitted to remain in the United States for 60 days after the completion of their program. To remain beyond that time, these visa holders must apply and be approved to stay to work in the country.
An M-1 visa is similar to an F-1 visa, with the primary difference being that M-1 visa applicants will be approved to enroll full-time at an American vocational school or another qualified non-academic program. As with F-1 visas, applicants must meet certain health, character and financial requirements in order to be approved for the visa. M-1 visa holders are also required to seek approval to remain working in the U.S. after the completion of their education.
F-3 and M-3 visas are non-immigrant visas that are available to qualified commuter students who are legal residents of either Mexico or Canada. These visas were created by the United States Congress through the Border Commuter Student Act of 2002. The primary purpose of F-3/M-3 visas is to allow students who live near the border to cross into the United States to obtain an education. Notably, prior to the September 11th attacks of 2001, border students from Mexico and Canada were allowed to study in the U.S. without obtaining any specialized documentation. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created F-3/M-3 visas for security reasons.

Really grateful for Kevin Raica and Aleksandra Jelonkowska's help in our case of applying for parental citizenship. We are super fortunate that both of my parents received their green card literally within six months of application, and we are convinced that Kevin's team meticulous preparation is a critical element to the positive outcome. I rarely give recommendations but totally recommend Kriezelman Burton to those needing immigration legal services!
