October 1 marked the beginning of Fiscal Year 2015 for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The start of the fiscal year means that 10,000 U visas are now available for issuance. The Immigration Service has started approving the applications of those people who were placed on the waiting list in the last year; the Immigration Service is issuing I-94s and work authorization cards to those applicants. USCIS processes the approvals on a first-in, first-out basis; in other words, those who were placed on the waiting list first are being approved and issued their documents first. Last year, the cap of 10,000 U visas was reached by early December. We expect that cap to be met again this year, as it has for the last five years.
