Recent Processing Time Information reports from U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services show an increase in the time it is taking the agency to process I-130 visa petitions. This especially affects those petitioners applying for immediate relatives, which are defined as the spouses, parents, and children under 21 of U.S. citizens. Though USCIS’s national goal is to process these petitions within five months, their current processing times are well outside of that. The Service Centers are averaging between seven and nine months per petition. Even our local Chicago District Office has recently stated it is taking about seven months to process these petitions.
