One of the most heartbreaking areas of immigration law is the issue of reuniting broken families. Â There are fewer things more saddening than knowing that a person cannot be with those whom they love and care the most about. Â If you are struggling with this issue and want to try to reunite your family across the borders, contact a local immigration attorney who can help you bring your family together again.
The narrative surrounding immigration in the U.S. has been incendiary and mixed as of lately, especially given the election year hustle.  In light of that, several members of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress have introduced a bill to expand immigration eligibility for those who are immediate family members of current U.S. citizens.  This same bill also specifically addresses same-sex married couples whose spouses should be able to join them in the U.S, this bill is called the Reuniting Families Act (RFA).  In the U.S., currently an “immediate family member” can be any of the following:
Overall, this bill promises to make it easier for U.S. citizens and green card holders to have their families here with them, legally, in the United States. Â Aside from that, there are other significant positive effects that the bill could have.
The RFA would increase visa allocations for siblings also and would give same sex couples unable to be married in their home countries the same treatment as opposite sex couples. Â This could mean groundbreaking change for up to 36,000 same sex, bi-national couples.
Representative Mike Honda (Democrat-California) sponsored the bill and indicated that the bill will cut backlogs that keep 4.4 million family members from their loved ones who are either U.S. citizens or green card holders. Â This backlog could take our current system multiple decades to slog through. Â Honda has also indicate that the RFA will utilize the thousands of unused visas that have been inactive over past decades.
If you have watched the news lately or listened to any part of the current immigration debate, you will know that a bill like this has a big uphill battle on the road to potential lawmaking. Â There are still many lawmakers who advocate for more restrictions on immigration in the U.S. Â Â There is no way to tell exactly how this bill will fare in the current immigration climate on Capitol Hill. Â What we do know, however, is that reform is coming in one way or another. Â
Even though the future promises change, for the good or for the bad you will always have an advocate in Kriezelman Burton & Associates. Â We know that family means the most to so many of us and we offer our assistance consistently for the purposes of keeping your family together, or uniting it after so long. I’m deeply grateful to God for leading us to this law firm; it is a true blessing to work with such professional and passionate individuals. Their dedication and commitment help make a difficult situation far less traumatic. In our case, we received 100% support from Attorney Andrea Ochoa and paralegal Rafael. May God bless them and allow them to continue this wonderful work. Thank you—a thousand thanks.
I give my total recommendation and trust in this great organization that has supported me and my family in very difficult times, especially the lawyer Andrea Ochoa and her paralegal Rafael who were little angels that God has sent us to be able to face all the obstacles that we have had along the way. Thank you very much with all my heart. ❤️
I have heard from several people that Brittni is a great attorney. When my friend was detained, I recommended Brittni to take his case. She did an amazing job putting together all the necessary information, especially given that we had only a couple of days to submit the habeas corpus application. She and her team worked very professionally and provided clear guidance throughout. She stayed in touch consistently and was…
I decided to use the services of Kriezelman Burton & Associates, LLC, and Kevin was nothing short of professional and amazing. From the consultation to the final approval, he gave us confidence and reassurance throughout the entire process. When I first told him about my wife’s wish to change her status, the first thing he said was, “We will get it done.” Even during the USCIS pause, he continued to…
Our experience with the firm was extraordinary. We worked with attorney Andrea Ochoa. Since the very first meeting we met, Andrea gave us all the confidence to proceed with our case. She always answered our questions shortly and offered clear guidelines to proceed. When my son's case received a notice of intent to deny, she planned how to fight that decision effectively. We totally recommend everyone to trust their case…
I just want to say huge thank you to Mr. Kevin A. Raica. for everything he has done for me throughout my immigration case. When I first came to Kevin, he explained the SIJS process clearly and walked me through the steps. I cannot find the words to express my gratitude to Brittni Rivera! She literally saved my family. We had been waiting seven years for what she accomplished in just three weeks. I was impressed by how accessible the office is—they always answer calls very quickly. A special thank you to paralegal Nataliia Melnyk. You are my heroes. Thank you.
